As part of the Singapore government’s ongoing efforts to streamline and digitize its services to better serve citizens, birth and death certificates have gone digital.
For parents, this means spending more time with their newborn instead of queuing to collect their birth certificate at the ICA Building. Signing up is easy – do it through the LifeSG app and once approved you have 90 days to download the document and save it to your personal device.
Death registration is also being streamlined so that bereaved family members can focus on things other than post-death administrative tasks. Parents must register their newborns through the LifeSG app within 42 days of the child’s birth and will no longer be able to do this in person at hospitals or the ICA Building.
Authentication Of Birth Certificate For Use In China
According to the ICA, more than 80 percent of eligible births have been digitally registered since 2018, when the LifeSG app was launched.
In case of successful registration, parents will be notified to download their child’s digital birth certificate from the ICA website using the e-service called electronic retrieval and immediate verification of certificates.
There is a fee of S$18 to issue a digital birth certificate. This covers the costs of the registration process, including the development and maintenance of the IT system, the ICA said.

Easy Steps To Get The Birth Certificate For Your New Born Child In India
Next of kin no longer have to register deaths. As soon as a doctor certifies a death online, it is automatically registered in the ICA system.
