Fire Safety Education: Empowering Homeowners And Reducing Risks – Boulder Fire-Rescue has a new formal application process for community outreach and education services. During COVID, many of our community outreach and education requests were put on hold. We are now excited to reconnect with the community with the relaunch of these programs.
Boulder Fire Rescue believes community risk reduction through education is an important step in empowering residents and spreading public awareness of fire and life safety hazards. Boulder Fire-Rescue meets with community members to share training and education programs that teach and demonstrate simple steps individuals can take to improve their fire and life safety.

Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable death and injury to children in the United States. To make matters worse, more than half of car seats are not used or installed correctly.
You can keep your child safe while traveling by installing the right car seat correctly. Correct use of child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by 71%. Boulder Fire Rescue is here to help make sure your family is safe on the road too!
Come to Boulder Fire Engine for a tour of your community event. This is a great opportunity to ask the firefighters questions and see the fire engine up close. We are happy to visit nonprofit organizations, neighborhood association events, and other community events held within Boulder’s city limits for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. We do not attend private events such as birthday parties.
Availability: 7 days a week. We may not be able to accommodate all event requests related to firefighter training and other scheduling conflicts.
Financial Empowerment Center
Let Boulder Fire Rescue teach you how to save a life. Compression-only CPR is giving continuous chest compressions of approximately 100 compressions per minute, without rescue breaths.
Boulder Fire Rescue can teach you about the risks to your business, how to prepare, and what to expect during an emergency. This may include fire drills and an explanation of your in-house fire system (automatic sprinklers, fire alarms, fire extinguishers) if they are present.
Have a member of Boulder Fire Rescue Community Risk Reduction come check your smoke and CO alarms. We are happy to help install new smoke/CO alarms or replace batteries in existing alarms. For homeowners who cannot afford smoke/CO alarms, we can provide them free of charge. We can also offer a hazard assessment to help reduce slip, fall and other hazards in your home.
Smoke/CO alarms are not available to tenants – it is your landlord’s responsibility to provide smoke/CO alarms and maintain them in good working order.
Supporting Our Community In 5 Different Ways
Learn about the most common causes of falls and the best way to prevent them at home. We can also assist with evacuating the home in the event of a fire or other emergency, as well as conducting a thorough home hazard assessment.
Boulder Fire Rescue may come to the school for an event or to speak to a class about fire safety. The purpose of the visit must be related to fire safety or to discuss employment opportunities in the fire service. Depending on the request, the visit may be by someone in the Boulder Fire Rescue Community Risk Reduction Division. There may not be a fire engine that performs this tour.
Come visit the Boulder Fire Station and learn what firefighters do while on duty. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about what it’s like to be a firefighter and learn all about fire engines. We do not host birthday parties. Please be aware that fire crews will be on duty, so if they are dispatched in an emergency the tour may end quickly. Staff may be late to the event if they are currently on an emergency call.

Stop the Blade is a national awareness campaign and call to action. Stop the Bleed aims to promote grassroots efforts that encourage people to be trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.
Boulder Fire-Rescue is happy to come to your event/organization/business and teach you three quick steps to control severe bleeding in an emergency. We do this to help build more resilient communities by preparing you to save lives if people nearby are bleeding profusely.’ Wildfire Defense Education & Tours promotes awareness by providing subject-specific resource guides and expert advice to empower our community, property owners, designers. , and managers to proactively reduce wildfire risks and minimize losses.
Our region now faces a 365-day-a-year fire season with devastating and potentially fatal consequences. There are steps Angelenos can take to protect properties, reduce area fire risk and increase city resilience. Architects, builders, developers, urban planners, and landscapers have important roles to play – read on to find out how the green building community is taking action!
The Wildfire Defense Professional Certificate program was developed to teach contractors and landscapers how to best protect homes and landscapes from fire through the use of materials, maintenance practices, and fire-wise design practices. be hardened by which is known to reduce the risk of fire damage to property. The aim of these trainings is to pave the way for the private market to adopt Fireways best practices and create a cultural change in the construction industry. The training highlights existing resources and includes input from consultants across the sector to promote awareness and knowledge transfer of industry-leading best practices that reduce fire risk in homes and landscapes.
Resilience Wrap Up
Each module is 150 minutes of training followed by an online certification test. This certification training provides participants with real-world examples and strategies to reduce fire risk. Our Landscaper module piloted on September 29, 2022 and the Contractor module pilots on November 10, 2022. In 2023, each module will be offered once per quarter.
Our tours showcase detailed risk reduction strategies, including the latest home hardening and firewise landscaping strategies for professionals as well as the general public and residents, specific to fire prevention and safety. and offer concrete guidance.

Fire Safe Marine (FSM) is a non-profit organization formed in 1992 as one of the first fire safe councils in California. Because of FSM’s existing strong education and outreach program, MWPA anticipates that FSM will be the primary source of MWPA-funded wildfire preparedness and risk reduction public education efforts.

Marin County Communications and Outreach (continued). Communication and access, along with accessible information and timely responses, are critical for communities to respond to and prepare for fires. FSM will maintain a comprehensive website, post regularly on social media channels, publish a monthly newsletter, and provide outreach coordination to ensure strong and consistent communication within the Marin community. With approximately 759,000 education and outreach touch points in 2021-22, FSM is committed to audience growth and engagement. As of August 2022, approximately 4,500 people follow FSM on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, the FSM website receives approximately 150,000 visitors annually, and the enewsletter reaches over 12,000 people.
Little Fires: Landowners Learn To Burn
Written Educational Materials (continued). FireSafeMarin will continue to create and print educational materials based on the need to empower residents through knowledge and facilitate readiness for preparedness and prevention. Examples of new projects being considered include a fire-smart landscaping guide for both homeowners and landscapers and a wildfire preparedness guide targeting the Access and Functional Needs community. Additionally, the FSM will work with the MWPA grant manager to develop a procurement guide for landscaping and home hardening services.
FireWise Site Support (continued). Marin County currently has 78 FireWise sites, representing 55,000 households, the largest county participation in the nation. FSM provides resources and support for these residents to organize and learn about personal preparedness, warnings and alerts, local evacuation plans, and strategies to make their community more fire-resistant.
